How A Watch Winder Works
For those who don’t wear their automatic watches everyday, an automatic watch winder is available. These devices move the watches in a circular pattern similar to human motion to keep the self-winding mechanism working. This is important because if a watch is not wound over time, the lubricants that keep it working will congeal. The time piece will then show inaccurate time. This is something to be avoided, especially if you are extremely time-conscious.
My father gave me a watch last year. It was one of those old, automatic watches that belonged to my grandfather. He mentioned that it was some kind of a heirloom, so I had to really take care of it and pass it on to my son when I had one. He showed me how to use the watch winder so I’d know what to do when I’m not wearing it. I was honestly amazed that it was still working after so long, and I hope I’m not the one to break it.
