My mother in law gave me a rosary on my first year in joining their family. It was a classic piece that she got from her last visit to the Vatican. It was special to me because I saw the sincere welcome in her gesture. To reciprocate her thoughtfulness I gave her a birthday birthstone rosary for her 60th birthday. It may not be as grand as the one she got me but I made sure I picked the one that will please her. I was so glad she liked it.

I may never as religious as her but somehow she was instrumental in my renewed spirituality. My faith used to be in a limbo. When she openly welcomed me with that simple gift I started to reassess my spirituality. The next thing I knew is I wouldn’t want to miss the Sunday mass. I went to church again and I know that one day I’ll religiously read the Bible just like her.
