The Genuine Thing

My grandmother owns a lot of jewelry. But her favorite pieces are those with blue stones particularly her sapphire ring, bracelet, earrings, and necklace set. I guess it’s because sapphires complement her blue eyes the most. She once explained to me that her sapphires are very special because they are cut into cabochons or smooth domes.

Cabochons produce a star with six rays that stretch across the stone’s surface. Grandma won’t tell me how much she paid for her sapphires. She just said they were very expensive. She also keeps reminding me and my sisters to only buy pricey gemstones from trusted companies or individuals and that we can even ask for verification from a respected laboratory before shelling out large amounts of money for any gem.
