pearl pendants

A pearl is a hard, rounded gem produced by certain bivalve mollusks such as pearl oysters and the freshwater pearl mussel. The pearl is created in response to an irritation by a foreign object that entered the mollusk’s shell. The mantle secretes calcium carbonate in the form of nacre and coats the irritant. After several years, a pearl is formed.

A lot of women prefer pearls over any other gems. Thus, this gem has found its way into becoming pearl pendants, rings, necklaces, bracelets, and other jewelry. Pearls are sold as natural and cultured. They are variable in shape and may come in black or pink as well as the standard white color.
