We find them everywhere. There are vast displays in department stores, in bazaars and flea markets. They are specially brandied as “unique” and “handmade”. With the Christmas season upon us, we will be seeing a lot more of these special works of art. I am referring to handmade jewelry. Why have they become so popular?

I guess it is because they are assembled piece by piece by a living person that handmade jewelry has become so popular. There might be some imperfections, but heck, they are made using simple tools. We can’t expect them to be as perfect as hundreds that come off the machine in a short time. We wear a piece of handmade jewelry and we imagine a patient woman laboring over her work table to create a piece that will have nothing else like it. We can almost feel the gentle touch of her hand on our pretty handmade jewelry.
